Valluvar emphasizes here, that a day which is not kept free from evil and not sanctified by an act of righteousness, is a day wasted. On the other hand, a day spent in the manner indicated in this Kural will bring him well on the way to salvation.
Valluvar's total acceptance of the doctrine of karma and his detailed treatment of it in the chapter on 'Uool' (Law of Karma), later in chapter 38, is a definite indication of Valluvar's clearly hindu moorings, and should give the quietus to Jain or other claims to the contrary.
