Naamam kedak kedum noy
Once the triple evils of lust, anger and delusion are eliminated,
All sorrow will come to an end.
All pain and sorrow will end if the three-fold evil-attachments of lust, anger and delusion are done away with. Even the very names of these evils should be eschewed, according to the poet. Manimekalai refers to the same idea when it says:
Yaamael uraitha porul katkellam
Kaamam vekuli mayakkam kaaranam
Lust, anger and greed (instead of delusion) are referred to as the triple gates of hell and as destructive of Self in 'Gita', (16:21), quoted by me under Kural 309 on Anger. The two are reconcilable, when we appreciate that greed arises out of delusion.
