Akatturuppu anpi lavarkku.
If a man's heart is devoid of love,
Of what avail are the externals?
Have we not seen people who, to all appearances, have a sound eye or ear, but are blind and deaf to all other intents and purposes? So too, a householder's life becomes purposeless and reduces itself to just a soul-less routine, without a tender heart.

Kural 34 emphasised only the absence of impurity or blemish in the heart; in this Kural the need for positive love is stressed.
