Tirukkural-On Virtue-On Love Or Affection-Kural 74

Anbueenum aarvam udamai adhueenum
Nanpennum naadaach cirappu.
Affection endows one with ardour, and that leads to admirable friendship.
This Kural is amended by Rajaji as follows:-
Anbu Eenum aarvam udaimai adhueenum
Nanbaennum naadaach chirappu
Rajaji has proposed the revised text by comparison with the first stanza of Buthathalwar"s andadi. The word 'Nanbu" is used therein to mean ' Jnana" (i.e.,) 'divine knowledge" or 'true enlightenment". It is certainly more appropriate, in this context, than the prosaic and flat interpretation of this word ' Nanbu" as friendship.
The English translation of this amended Kural will be,
'Love is a training for devotion and out of it comes unsought,
true enlightenment, which is the goal of all endeavour.
This and the next couplet are instances of Valluvar giving practical guidelines, on his treatment of the subject of Aram (i.e.,) virtue itself, to reach heaven (Veedu)
