Those who, having experienced the paths of both householder and neethar,
Thereafter preach ad practise virtue, will be held in high esteem..
This Kural, along with the first two of this chapter, emphasises the superiority of the life of renunciation (of neethar) as a path to fame, when compared to all others, since 'neethar' has experience of the best of both worlds and is, therefore, in a better position to project virtue in precept and example.
Though 'aram' is a general term for virtue, including that practiced by the householder, the expression 'aram poondaar' here refers specifically to 'neethar'.
