The following translation is adapted from Rajaji's:
'Greed results only in deadly misery' it should, therefore, be one's pride, To cultivate the habit of not coveting other's possessions'.
Greed defeats its own purpose; while on the other hand, contentment leads to victory of the spirit. A sense of indifference to either as advocated by the Gita, is a desirable attitude. A practical suggestion has been given in this Kural by Valluvar to develop one's pride by not coveting other people's possessions.
Kural 363 describes 'Vendaamai annaviluchch selvam'which is a parallel idea.
