Sadhana In Our Daily Life - An Approach For Beginners-III

Thus we save time and energy which can be utiljzed for a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us. In the course of time we shall notice a strong urge in us to study the spiritual scriptures and meet like-minded people. When we are sufficiently prepared. we shall meet a Master who gives us instructions for our spiritual life. We have not to search for Him, He will come to us.
But preparation is necessary. Therefore we start with Self-discipline and learn to discriminate and control our activities, become aware of what we are doing, talking and thinking. Since the mind is very powerful and will tend to revel in the vast field of our objective world, we kindle the thought of the divinity in us and thus develop in us the power of concentration without which we can never hope to gain victory of our lower nature in us. We must root out the negative thought that we cannot do anything. We are a part of God because God dwells within us and all things are possible. unto Him. We learn to believe that we can do even what seems impossible.
If we conquer the notion to possess individual power, we try to practice it constantly and will notice that our ability and intensity to do so increases. Along with it an inner peace and happiness will be experienced. The thick compound wall is of no use any more since the external conditions cannot disturb this peace and happiness within us.
The start is not easy and it may happen that we did not succeed to remember the Lord even for a split second during the whole day. But we should not despair. never give up our attempt. Endurance is one of the greatest assets in life.
Before we are going to sleep we make it a habit to think over our day's activities, in deeds and thoughts. Even there we will be surprised how little we remember as most of our actions were done as a reflex not to speak of the thoughts passing through our mind. But practice makes the master. Let our last thought before sleep be directed to the Lord. We shall find out that this last thought will be the first thought the next morning when we awake.
We have thus started our new day in a beautiful way.
Let us keep in mind that religion in its essence is not a matter of belief but of experience. Self-mastery is a keynote to it.
