Pitru Paksha 2023: Foods To Offer Your Ancestors During Purnima Shradh
Pitru Paksha 2023: In Hinduism, Pitru Paksha is a 16-day-lunar period and it is observed to pay homage to one's ancestors or departed souls. This year it will begin on 29 September and continue till 14 October 2023.
During this time, along with rituals, and prayers, there are certain food items that are offered to forefathers by family members.

Consuming non-veg food is strictly forbidden during this time. Panchabali bhog is also offered during the period as it is believed that during Pitru Paksha, ancestors descend to the earthly realms to bless the family members. Let us know about them.
Pitru Paksha 2023: Foods To Offer Your Ancestors
The food that is offered to ancestors must include Kheer (a type of sweet rice and milk), lapsi or other beans (a sweet porridge made of wheat grains), rice, dal (lentils), the vegetable of spring bean (guar) and a yellow gourd (pumpkin).
There is a belief that shraddh is not completed during this period without doing this.
According to the Hindu tradition, the correct way to perform shraddha is done by making food in a burning pot. The five parts of the food are then offered to a dog, crow, cow, ant, and gods. This represents the five elements of the world.
While an ant is considered a symbol of fire, the dog is associated with a water element, the cow represents earth, the crow is associated with an air element and God is considered as a symbol of space.
While donating these food items it is essential to do it with utmost devotion and respect for the departed souls. During this period, rituals are followed strictly by adhering to the rules and traditions.
