Puja forms an important part of the Hindu rituals. It is equally important to ensure that Puja and its associated rituals are performed properly in order to get the blessings of the Supreme Lord. However, we end up making some mistakes while we perform these rituals due to the shortage of time.
Well, while some of these mistakes might not be too big to count, there are yet some which we should avoid at any cost. Keeping some Puja items on the floor while we sit down to offer our prayers to God is one such mistake. Given below is a list of Puja items that should never be kept on the floor. Take a look.
Shaligram
The Shaligram stone is used as a symbol of Lord Vishnu and can be found in many houses. It is a black-coloured stone which is found on the banks of the river Gandaki in present-day Nepal. It is said that we should never keep it on the floor. Moreover, never forget that it should be placed on a clean cloth. Same rules go for Shivling also, which symbolises Lord Shiva.
Upanayan
Upanayan is the other name for a Janeu, the sacred thread which is worn by some belonging to the class of priests among the Hindus. It is worn by the Hindu boys after performing a ritual when they reach a certain age. It should never be kept on the floor.
Conch Shell
A conch shell (Shank) can be found in most of the Hindu houses. While we know that a broken Shankh should not be kept in the house, not many of us know that we should not keep it on the floor as well.
Diya
This is a very common mistake that people make while offering prayers. Many people keep the Diya without a tray beneath it. A Diya should always be kept in a plate or tray and then lighted before the deity. Similarly, it should never be kept on the floor.
Gold
Many people use some items of gold to be placed in the Puja thali, while they offer prayers to the deity. Gold symbolises prosperity and hence Goddess Lakshmi. Hence, we should always keep it covered in red cloth and never keep it on the floor.
