Rinzai lived withhis master for almost twenty years. One day Rinzai went and occupied his master's seat. The master who walked into the room, seeing Rinzai on his sit, quietly occupied Rinzai;s seat.
Nothing was communicated between them, but the communication had happened!
Rinzai asked his master, “Are you not offended? Have I insulted you? Am I ungrateful to you?"
The master laughed, “You have moved from the being a student to a disciple and a disciple to a master. I am only glad that you can now share my work. I need not have to turn up everyday. I know that someone else is there to carryout the work"
