Gold Bangles For Glass

There was once a devout lady who had her mind fixed on God while she served and cared for her husband and children with utmost dedication. At the death of her husband, after the cremation of the body, the lady resorted to something very unnatural in those days. She broke the glass bangles that she was wearing and replaced them with gold.

The lady was asked as to why she had the gold bangles on. The dedicated wife replied that since the ephemeral form of her husband has vanished, he is now unchangeable and whole in every respect. His body is no longer fragile like the glass bangles and is like that of the unchangeable gold.

The essence of Vedanta thus reflected in one simple action.
