Rakshabandhan 2023: Traditional Indian Sweets To Celebrate This Festival
Rakshabandhan is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated in India, symbolizing the bond of love between brothers and sisters. On this auspicious day, sisters tie a sacred thread called 'rakhi' around their brothers' wrists, praying for their well-being and protection.
It is also an occasion for families to come together and share delicious meals. This year, the festival will be celebrated on 30 August 2023.

Rakshabandhan 2023: Traditional Dishes
Food plays a vital role in Indian festivals, and Rakshabandhan is no exception. Preparing traditional dishes adds flavour and meaning to the celebrations. These dishes are often passed down through generations, carrying with them the essence of cultural heritage.
1. Puran Poli
Puran Poli is a popular Maharashtrian sweet dish made during Rakshabandhan. It consists of a soft dough filled with a sweet lentil filling made from jaggery, cardamom, and nutmeg. This delectable treat is usually served with ghee or milk.
2. Gujia
Gujhia is one of the most beloved sweets prepared during Rakshabandhan in North India. These crescent-shaped pastries are filled with a mixture of khoya (reduced milk), nuts, and grated coconut. They are deep-fried to perfection and dipped in sugar syrup for added sweetness.
3. Malpua
Malpua is a delectable pancake-like dessert popular during Rakshabandhan festivities. Made from flour, semolina, mashed bananas, and milk, these sweet treats are fried until golden brown and then soaked in flavoured sugar syrup. They are often garnished with nuts or served with rabri (sweet condensed milk).
4. Rasgulla
No Indian festival is complete without the presence of Rasgulla. These spongy cottage cheese dumplings cooked in sugar syrup make for an irresistible treat on Rakshabandhan. Whether homemade or store-bought, their juicy texture and sweet taste bring joy to every celebration.
5. Kheer
Kheer is a traditional rice pudding that holds a special place in Rakshabandhan celebrations. Prepared by simmering rice, milk, sugar, and cardamom together until thickened, this creamy dessert is garnished with almonds or pistachios for added richness.
