The research is led by University of Sussex, that discovered that people rated those faces higher that appeared beneficial to them. A set 64 volunteers were asked to rate the faces they was on the computer screen in a scale of 100 to minus 100.
The volunteers were asked to concentrate on the dots that appeared either right or left on the screen. Before appearing, the faces were shown either looking to the left or right, while the volunteers were asked to concentrate on the dots alone. Later they were asked to once again rate the faces on their attractiveness.
Almost 57 percent of the people thought that those faces appeared attractive that pointed the dots on the correct direction. The results also proved that faces of the opposite gender were more affective in attracting the attention of the participants.
"In other words, women pay more attention to where men look and vice versa. The faces that gave accurate cues as to where the target dot appeared increased in attractiveness," the Telegraph quoted Dr. Beena Khurana as saying.
"The traditional belief is that the more we find a face attractive the more we pay attention to it. But here we show that we can cause a face to become attractive as a function of the way it behaves. "We think that perceived attractiveness is both dynamic and responsive to the behavior of people," she added. AGENCIES
