Who Stars After 40 yrs?
Who stars after the age of 40? Do you worship actors or actresses of the age 40 for their valuable presence in the silver screen? International Federation of Actors, in conjunction with the actors'' union Equity conducted a survey regarding this. The result was surprising!
Though they mesmerize many hearts in their youthful years, it has been found out that the opportunities for many actresses peter out as they reach the mature age of 40. The result is that they work less and earn less than their male counterparts. This survey indicates the longstanding issues of employment disadvantage for older women performers.
One actor among four actors of age 40, earns more than 60,000 pounds or more, compared to one actress among 10 actresses of age 40. The wide range roles limited to the 40 year old actresses 0.1 per cent as compared to the fourty year old actors.
The actresses see their age as a disadvantage. They have to disappear from the scene at the age of 40 and can reappear as grand mothers at the age of 65. Some of them fear to reveal their age, fearing that even though they might look younger, their real age will dissolve them from the chances. Exceptions for this in Indian cinema can be actresses like Sridevi, Hema Malini, Sobhana and Suhasini!
The actresses complain that while the actors enjoy the juicy roles they have to become invisible in the roles of mums, doctors and teachers. While women are entering into a wider variety of jobs and at higher levels than ever before, why can"t a change happening the big and small screens also? AGENCIES
