Every culture will have its own set of superstitious beliefs. It is surprising to see that people still believe in all these things.
Some people go only by these beliefs and superstitions. Like the two sides of the coin, there is no doubt that there are lot of pros and cons of superstitions during pregnancy.
Our forefathers do say these things for a reason and generally, there is some logic behind this. But, on the other hand, science has advanced so much that it simply busts all these myths.
Every person you meet will say something about your baby belly. You will have to take it in the right spirit. Here are some of the superstitions that you are sure to hear during pregnancy.
Gender of the baby
When you consider the myths on pregnancy, the very first thing that people will want to know is the gender of the baby. If the belly is pointed, it will be a boy. If it falls to the side, it will be a girl. If your face looks rounder, it is a girl, and weight on the rear can mean it is a boy. Some of these turn out to be true, but nothing to assure you than an ultrasound.
Position of the umbilical cord
One of the superstitions during pregnancy is that the movements you make will affect the position of the umbilical cord. Like when you lift your hands above your head, it is a myth that the baby can be strangled by the umbilical cord. Actually, the movement of the body has no effect on the position of the baby or the umbilical cord.
Cleft lip
One of the strange superstitions during pregnancy is that when a pregnant women watches a lunar eclipse, the baby will have a cleft lip. This is one of the common myths. For protection, the mother is asked to carry something metallic. Cleft lips are formed by genetic and environmental factors.
Hairy
One of the superstitions during pregnancy is that they believe if the mother has a heartburn, the baby will be quite hairy. Also, if the woman has a lot of red meat during pregnancy, the child will be hairy. When in reality, the amount of hair depends on the genes that the baby inherits. Heartburn is usually a reaction to the hormones.
Cradle Cap
A common myth surrounds a pregnant woman who consume dairy products in large quantities. The myth is that the baby will be born with a cradle cap. The cradle cap is a scaly crust patches that appear on baby's head. This is generally due to the excess of oil on the scalp of the baby. It is also important to know that this is quite harmless for the baby.
