Mood Swings During Pregnancy
Few minutes of happy thoughts and after a second a move towards the dark and deep depression cave. Do you feel like you are on the roller coaster of emotions during pregnancy? Learn how to manage your mood swings during pregnancy and when to get help if you need it.
The major emotions prevalent during this period are depression, emotional liability, self-esteem issues, body image issues and personal feelings regarding control. A basic understanding of both physical and emotional changes helps the mom to be to understand the situation and have positive experience. So read on to know all about mood swings during pregnancy and easy methods to balance the situation.
Causes
Two main hormones, estrogen and progesterone cause mood swings during pregnancy. Emotions are always unstable and feeling of depression is normal as any other body changes during pregnancy. She may move from great joy to deep despair within fraction of time. A pregnant woman may feel tearful with little cause or no cause at all. She may even find hard to express the reason of joy or despair. This is no psychological problem but; a clear picture of hormonal changes.
Mood Swings are most common during the first trimester that is between 6 weeks to 10 weeks of pregnancy. However the fluctuation resides during the second trimester. This is the period when she first feels the baby move. The feeling is great so is her emotions.
The third trimester is the most anxious one. This is the period when she worries about everything and anything that she can think of. However her major cause of anxiety lies not just on the labour and delivery process but also in baby care and parenting in general. She will feel physically uncomfortable with the growth of the abdomen and will feel irritated with the lightest noise as she lacks sleep in general. It may be more extreme if she is single without a partner. The hard-core fact of being a single mother can make her feel stressed and isolated.
Treatment
Love her: To keep the ladylove in the calmest protective care, husband has to love her. Make her feel she is the most precious being in the world. Understand her emotions and tell her that everything is fine and you will be with her at any time. Give the same preaching to all the people who commonly visit her (relatives or friends).
Sleep well: Women lacks sleep during the third trimester as the baby moves frequently. So, sleep when the baby sleeps. Avoid eating heavy food before three hours of your daily nap.
Move your body: Exercise is the best treatment for mood swings. Ask your doctor about the best exercise that fits your body and work out everyday atleast for 30minutes. Many doctors also advise yoga. It relaxes your body and mind.
Pamper yourself: Pamper yourself with the best goodies. Get some hot maternity clothes and look trendy and in style mom to be. Go for a body massage or do anything that reduces your depression. Go for vacation with your partner to the nearby-secluded area for that cuddling you always longed for. Move out with your friends to a party. Do not restrain yourself inside the four walls. However do not overstrain yourself with lot of outings.
Read the Holy Scriptures: refrain from stress and anxiety by reading the Holy Scriptures. Read books that will uplift your thinking and stable your emotions. Do not even touch the books that will make you brood on any unwanted topics. So, go and grab a good book from the nearby stall and start meditating on something that is worth thinking about.
However, if the mood swings of anxiety, sadness and anger continuously persist more than two weeks meet the practitioner. You may be suffering from depression that needs immediate care and attention called bipolar disorder. A survey states that untreated emotional health problems can affect your baby's physical well being and increase the risk of preterm labor and postpartum depression. Get treated with the right psychotherapy and medication for effective results.
