Soreness in nipples is a common problem in breastfeeding moms. Though breastfeeding could be one reason behind the soreness, other reasons could also be tight inner wear, dry skin and cracks on the skin.
Pain, swelling, itching sensation and tenderness are some of the symptoms. In some women, hormonal imbalances could also cause the pain. There are some health issues which could also cause soreness.

So, it is better to consult a doctor to know the exact reason. But here are some simple home remedies if the soreness is due to breastfeeding.

Tip #1
Take a few ice cubes in a cloth and rub it on the sore nipple. This will temporarily offer relief and can reduce swelling.

Tip #2
Use coconut oil to massage the sore nipple. This will moisturise the area and heal the cracks, dryness or chapping. Use lukewarm oil for better effect. After 15 minutes, you need to wash the oil off before you feed your baby.

Before you go ahead with breastfeeding, gently massage the sore nipple with a drop of breast milk. After you are done with the feeding, again massage the sore nipple with a drop of breast milk. Let the nipple dry for sometime. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day. As breast milk contains healing agents, the soreness can minimise.

Tip #6
Use aloe vera gel on the affected area. It contains healing properties that can reduce pain too. Once the gel is applied, wash it after 10 minutes. Ensure that you keep your nipples clean before you feed your baby.
