Pregnancy Stretch Marks
The birth of the child may bring smile to the proud parents at the same time the birth of these pinkish - purple rashes may hinder love relationships too. To avoid all that stares and experience the same leisure of sexy outfit that shows your belly, read all about the causes and tips to prevent pregnancy stretch marks.
About 90% of pregnant women can develop stretch marks or striae either during or after pregnancy. The best treatment for stretch marks is preventive care as it is impossible to remove the stretch marks completely. However, they may become less conspicuous with appropriate treatment over a period of time.
Stretch marks causes
Pregnancy stretch marks occur during pregnancy often because of rapid weight gain or weight loss A reduction in collagen level in the skin affects the structure of the skin and leads to occurrence of stretch marks. The pink color that shows in the initial stages points to rupturing of the small blood vessels in the outer layers of your skin.
Tips to Prevent Stretch marks
- By using body brush or cloth, massage the areas where you have stretch marks, or want to prevent stretch marks from appearing (like abdomen, arms, legs, breasts) . This will help in increasing circulation in that area.
- Drink more than eight glasses of water or other nutritious fluids daily to hydrate your skin and maintain elasticity.
- Use a natural moisturizer like olive oil during pregnancy as this will help in preventing stretch marks. Wheat germ oil and Vitamin E oil will also help.
- Eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy oils and low fat foods. Vitamins that are particularly great contributors to the appearance of the quality of your skin are Vitamins C, E, A and zinc.
- Keep your skin moisturized (especially breasts, belly, thighs and anywhere else you think you might get stretch marks ) throughout your pregnancy and also after the birth of your baby till you get back to your pre-pregnancy weight.
- Regular exercise also helps in preventing moderate amount of stretch marks. With the help of exercises the skin will get more of nourishment with proper blood circulation,
- To prevent unsightly stretch marks due to pregnancy, apply a mixture of turmeric and curd to your stomach and waist before going for a bath. Leave it on for fifteen minutes, and wash off.
- Avoid hormone based medicines like steroids as they may cause stretch marks.
- Use a turmeric-lemon pre-bath cream and massage it well. This helps to maintain the elasticity of the skin and provides protection.
