Here are some parenting tips to help you make your help you make your child sleep alone and also to accept this shift mentally.
Why Your Child Should Sleep Alone?
- Your kids privacy is just as important as your own. Just because you are the parent you need not always have to know what your kids are doing. Stop thinking of your children as the babies you brought home from the hospital and look at them as individuals.
- Your kid may want to maintain a personal diary or read a book away from your prying eyes. Sometimes you need solitude even to think clearly. If your child is of creative disposition then a separate bedroom is must.
- Most parents are against the idea of their child sleeping alone because they feel it will bring 'distance' in their relationship. They fear that they will miss out on moments of their kid's life.
- But what they do not realise is that you are not pushing your child away if they sleep away from you; you mere giving him or her space which they will eventually demand and appreciate.
- You may be worried that your child is be up to something that he or she should not be doing and you need to keep an eye on the child. Nobody is suggesting that you should let the child on his or her own just because you are raising an independent child. You can still keep a tab on their activities.
- Remove the latch or lock from their room so that they cannot lock their room. Never have a television in the kids room or else you won't have any control over what they watch.
- It is not just about your kids privacy; what about yours? Don't you ever need to get intimate with your partner? You and your spouse too need some space of your own. There are so many things that a couple, especially a couple with growing children needs to discuss.
- Some times the child need to sleep alone to get rid of irrational fears like fear of darkness or demons and ghosts. It is not natural to have such fears and if you have in some way inculcated or encouraged them then you have to make amends.
How you raise your kids will eventually decide if the child is independent, so do the right thing for them.
