First time moms generally wonder about how much time their babies need to sleep. Well, the sleep requirements do change with every passing month in the first year.
And yes, babies need to sleep more. As their bodies undergo development and certain changes, enough sleep is required.

So, here is a chart to guide you about the general sleep requirements of babies.

0-2 Months
During the day, infants take around 3-5 naps. The night's sleep could be around 8-9 hours. Overall, infants sleep for around 16 plus hours in a day.

2-4 Months
During the day, babies need around 3 naps. The night's sleep could be around 9-10 hours. Overall, sleep hours in the day could be around 14 plus hours.

4-6 Months
They need 2-3 naps in the day. The night's sleep could be around 10 hours. Overall sleep hours are 14-15 hours in a day.

6-9 Months
At this age, they take around 2 naps. The night's sleep could be around 10-11 hours. Overall sleep in the day would be around 14 plus hours.

9-12 Months
2 naps in the day and 10-12 hours of night sleep would be required. So, overall sleep is around 14 hours in a day.

12-18 Months
One year old babies need 1-2 naps. The night's sleep should be 11-12 hours. Overall sleep can be 13-14 hours.

18-24 Months
At this age, they take only one nap. But in the night, they sleep for 11 hours. Overall sleep is 13-14 hours in a day.
