Protein not just helps in boosting your energy level and helps in building up the muscles, but a new study has found that protein-rich foods helps in providing relief from bowel syndrome.
According to a new research published in the Journal Science consuming protein rich foods helps in making your gut stronger and tolerant to inflammation.
A team of researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine, United States who had conducted the research on mice found a kind of tolerance-promoting immune cell that carry a specific bacterium in their guts. This bacterium requires tryptophan in triggering the cells appearance.

Tryptophan is one of the essential building blocks of protein which is mostly found in foods such as nuts, seeds, eggs, beans, poultry, yogurt and cheese.
For the study, the team analysed two groups of mice. One group of mice had a kind of immune cell that promotes tolerance, while the other group of mice were the same strain of mice but they did not have such immune cells.

To understand how the bacteria affected the immune system, the researchers grew L. reuteri in liquid and then transferred small amounts of the liquid without bacteria to immature immune cells isolated from mice.
When the researchers doubled the amount of tryptophan in the mice's feed, the number of such cells rose by about 50%. When tryptophan levels were halved, the number of cells dropped by half.

4. Lentils:
Lentils are the best source of plant-based protein. For those of you who are vegetarians, lentil is one of the best protein sources. Lentils are also rich in fibre content, iron, potassium, magnesium and other essential nutrients.
5. Meat & Fish:
Chicken breast and lean beef are considered to be highly rich in protein content. In addition to mean even tuna fish is a rich source of protein. The best part about tuna fish is that it is low in fat and calories but contains a good amount of omega-3 fatty acids.
