Meet Usha Chilukuri Vance: All You Need To Know About Indian Link To Donald Trump’s Running Mate, JD Vance
The 2024 United States elections are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 05 November 2024 and recently, J.D. Vance was announced as Donald Trump's vice-presidential pick for upcoming US elections.
He is the first-term senator from Ohio, has undergone a significant transformation. Initially a critic of Donald Trump, Vance is now one of Trump's closest allies and his vice-presidential running mate. This shift is notable given Vance's earlier stance in 2016 when he published his memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," which was critical of Trump.
Born in Middletown, Ohio, Vance was raised by his grandparents in Appalachia. His memoir detailed the struggles of his upbringing and took a conservative view of the region's issues. After serving in the Marines and graduating from Yale Law School, Vance became a venture capitalist in California.
However, it is his indian connection that has been drawing a lot of media attention lately.
Vance's wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance is an Indian-origin lawyer who has a strong legal background make her a significant figure in this political alliance.
Raised in a San Diego suburb, Usha's upbringing focused on education and hard work. She graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in History and earned a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. At Yale, she served as Managing Editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology and Executive Development Editor of The Yale Law Journal.

Legal Career And Academic Achievements
Usha Vance works as a corporate litigator at a prestigious law firm in San Francisco. She has clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court and Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his time as an appeals court judge. Her academic journey also included being a Gates fellow at Cambridge, where she engaged with left-wing and liberal groups.
JD Vance and Usha met at Yale Law School and married in Kentucky in 2014. Their wedding featured a Hindu priest presiding over a separate ceremony. The couple has three children together. Usha has been instrumental in her husband's political success, helping him organise his thoughts on social decline in rural white America, which inspired his best-selling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy."
Political Partnership And Family Life
The memoir was adapted into a film directed by Ron Howard in 2020. Usha has made rare public appearances alongside JD during his campaign for the Ohio Senate seat. As the US presidential elections approach, former President Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his Vice Presidential pick through a social media post.
"Usha Vance is a highly accomplished attorney and daughter of Indian immigrants-and her husband brings youth and diversity to the Trump ticket," said AI Mason, a US-based global real estate investment advisor and entrepreneur, speaking to ANI. "She knows the Indian culture and all about India. She can be a big help to her husband in navigating great ties between USA and India," added Mason.
Public Appearances and Support
Earlier, in an interview with Fox & Friends, Usha Chilukuri Vance discussed their different faiths and JD's potential candidacy for Vice President. "I don't think people understand how hard he works and how creative he is. Everything he says and does is built on a foundation of so much thought. He's always trying to do better," said Usha.
On supporting her husband, Usha told Fox, "There are a few different reasons...One is that I grew up in a religious household. My parents are Hindu, and that was one of the things that made them such good parents, that makes them really very good people. And so I think I've seen that...the power of that in my own life, and I knew that JD was searching for something. This just felt right for him."
J.D. Vance's Background
The interview was conducted three weeks before JD Vance was announced as Trump's running mate for the upcoming US presidential elections. JD Vance was born James David Bowman in Middletown, Ohio, to a mother who struggled with addiction and a father who left when he was young. Raised by his grandparents, Vance's challenging early life shaped his perspectives.
The Trump campaign has stated that following his near-death experience, the former president will focus on calling for unity instead of criticising political adversaries during times of tragedy. This approach will be pivotal as he faces off against President Biden in the 2024 election rematch.
