Whaaatttt!!! This Bridge Has Broken 10 World Records Simultaneously, Curious To Know How?
A bridge in China has garnered significant attention after claims of breaking multiple world records. The Shenzhenhongshan Link, a mega-project in Guangdong Province, was officially opened last month. This project two bridges, two artificial islands, and an underwater tunnel.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link begins at the Shenzhen airport interchange and extends over the Pearl River to Ma'anshan Island in Zhongshan. According to China Global Television Network (CGTN), the bridge spans an impressive 24 kilometers.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link
One of the most notable achievements is that it features the world's longest two-way, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel. This tunnel stretches 5,035 meters and comprises 32 tube sections plus one final joint.
The bridge also boasts the widest underwater steel shell-concrete immersed tube tunnel. CGTN reports that this tunnel has a standard tube section length of 165 meters, a width ranging from 46 to 55.6 meters, and a height of 10.6 meters.
Additionally, the bridge has achieved the highest navigation clearance for a sea bridge. This makes it easier for boats to pass underneath without any issues.
Innovative Features And Construction Milestones
The project includes the world's first underwater expressway interchange and airport interchange. This innovation has significantly reduced travel time from two hours to just 30 minutes.
Another record is for the widest repeatedly foldable M-shaped water stop used in the final joint of an immersed tube tunnel. This water stop measures three meters in width.
The suspension bridge part of the project has undergone wind resistance tests with a maximum flutter test wind speed of 83.7 meters per second, making it highly resilient against strong winds.
Engineering Marvels And Structural Achievements
The tunnel also features a steel-shell immersed tube using self-compacting concrete with a single tube section concrete volume reaching 29,000 cubic meters, totaling 910,000 cubic meters overall.
Moreover, it holds the record for the largest offshore suspension bridge anchor with a concrete volume of approximately 344,000 cubic meters.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link also has the largest span for a fully offshore steel box girder suspension bridge at 1,666 meters.
The project includes the largest steel bridge deck with hot-mix epoxy asphalt paving covering an area of 378,800 square meters. However, there are conflicting reports about whether it holds the record for highest bridge deck height.
Despite these impressive feats, some records are still awaiting confirmation from Guinness World Records.
