Wills Lifestyle Presents 6th edition of ‘The Debut’

Wills Lifestyle announced the sixth edition of ‘The Debut’, a first of its kind initiative for recognizing India’s promising young talent in fashion arena. The second regional round kicked off 24th February at the Wills Lifestyle store at Brigade Road. Wills Lifestyle’s association & commitment with India’s most prestigious fashion event ‘Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week’ is a celebration of the country’s formidable creative talent. ‘The Debut’ is an extension of that commitment & aims to encourage students of fashion through showcasing, recognizing, & launching outstanding talent of tomorrow.

This year the contest received an overwhelming response through more than 300 entries from all over India, including students from country’s prestigious fashion institutes - all centers of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of Design (NID), Pearl Academy of Fashion, Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, Amity School, Noida & J. D. Institute of Fashion Technology. Out of the portfolios received, a separate jury further short listed the entries to 31 potential candidates and 4 direct entries through facebook, who will be presenting their creations in front of an eminent jury at the regional rounds held this week in Bengaluru and Kolkata.

This initiative provides encouragement to budding creative talent and facilitates interface with the leading names of the Indian Fashion fraternity. The short listed finalists will be competing at ‘The Debut’ finale to be held in New Delhi on 01st March 2012. An eminent panel of representatives from the design team of ITC and other fashion institutes like NIFT, NID, Pearl Academy, along with renowned fashion designers of FDCI will judge the winner, on key parameters like Creativity, Technicality and Commercial Viability. The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to an International Fashion Fair and will be felicitated at the forthcoming edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in September 2012.

The 17 candidates in Bengaluru were judged by the celebrated fashion designers Deepika Govind and Raj Shroff. The candidates have been selected after the first round, wherein their illustration-based design portfolio was evaluated.
