Top 5 Myths About Aquariums
Do you have an aquarium with little colourful fishes swimming? If not, get one now and feel the difference. Having an aquarium in your home will make your living place more lively and cheerful. No matter what size it is and how many fish you have in them, aquariums are always in the top list of home decors.
But do you know that apart from having a hobby, keeping aquariums in home has many related beliefs and myths? According to Chinese mythology, keeping an aquarium at home will make the fishes take away bad incidents that would have otherwise affected the people staying there. So, when a fish in the tank dies, it is considered good that some evil eyes have been warded off by that.
However, coming to the practical side of keeping fish tanks, there are many common myths about keeping an aquarium that will make you think twice before getting one. Many of these wrong concepts will not remain as myths until you have an aquarium in your home. Here are some of the common aquarium myths.

Small tank will hinder growth of fish
This is one of the most common myths about keeping an aquarium at home. People stay away from considering an aquarium due to their misconception that the size of the tank and the growth of the fish is related. But, this is completely wrong.

You have to change water daily
This is yet another aquarium myth. You don't have to change the water completely. If you don't have a filter system, change 10-20 percent water weekly. If you have a filtration system, then changing 30-50 percent water monthly will be enough.

You should add salt to keep the fish healthy
If you have a clear idea about what type of fish you have, you will never get this confusion. Only marine fish need salt water. Freshwater fish that we commonly keep in our aquarium don't need salt and in fact, it is harmful for them.

Aquarium will pollute the environment
Many people don't want to get an aquarium at home only because of the belief that it will make the air polluted. This is just another aquarium myth as these tiny creatures are just contributors to the beauty of nature.

You have to feed them more
If you believe in this myth, probably you are the reason for killing your aquarium fish. Do not over feed your fishes. Fish lack satiety centre in their brain, so that they will not be able to get the ‘enough' feeling. Giving them too much food will actually kill your fish.
