Valentine's day is around the corner and one of the symbols of this great day of love is the Greek God of love, Cupid. One of the most famous symbols, he is the little boy who is armed with a bow and arrow, piercing hearts and making matches in heaven. Known to be one of the most mischievous Greek Gods, many are unaware of Cupid's tricks on Valentine's Day.
The God of Love, Cupid, has always played a role in the celebrations of love and lovers in ancient history. In ancient Greece he was widely known as Eros, the young son of Aphrodite, who is the goddess of love and beauty. Among the Romans, he was referred to as Cupid, and his mother Venus.
According to many, Cupid is the God of Love who carries along with him a set of arrows and a bow. The arrows which the God of Love strikes, signify desires and emotions of love. At times, he is seen wearing an armour like that of Mars, the God of War. It is believed to have an ironic connection between warfare and romance and it also symbolises the invincibility of love.
Today, Cupid and his arrows have become the most popular of love signs, and love is most frequently depicted by two hearts pierced by his arrow. Other than his arrow and his bow, there is a great significance behind Cupid, the God of Love.

It is said that Cupid, the God of Love also carries a torch with him. The significance of the torch Cupid carries with him is to inflame desire between a man and a woman.

The golden bow signifies love and desire. The beautiful golden bow also notes that love is as precious as gold.
Cupid's Wreath
The wreath is on Cupid's head is the sole reason why you give your partner a rose on Valentine's Day. The roses on Cupid's head are red in colour, signifying love.
Cupids Wings
The wings of Cupid which are white in colour signifies th purity of love. Love is pure, and when you are struck with Cupid's love, it is pure and unconditional.
