Does Money Really Matter?

Money makes the world go round so they say. In today"s world money matters does rule the aspirations and dreams of people all around the world. But does money matters really play a major role in relationships: how they develop, sustain and perish.
For youngsters money may just be a necessity to lead a lavish lifestyle and maintain a 'class" among their friends. In a Relationship, money matters in the sense of security as it nurtures the bond with basic requirements of life or in general it ensures a higher place in the social set up.
“Money does play a fair amount of role in any relationship. Scarcity of it may result in hurdles as it fulfills the basic necessities of life," says Sahana, a BPO consultant. Erik, a theater artist disapproves the notion. He argues that “money is not a factor in relationships. Its love and compatibility that binds it. A bit of money and lot of love can make a relationship work but not the other way around. Money can be a short term attraction but in the long run money hardly matters".
Yet some believe in the 'money spoilt everything" mantra. “A lot of youngsters today value money more than other things and that"s quite a distressing trend. In our times money was hardly given to us as everything was provided by our parents," comments Ravi Manhotra, a retired banker. Sammir Datani, who played Sonam"s love interest in 'I Hate Luv Storys', take on money matter is, “it is the smaller things in life that give you happiness. So to keep the spark alive in any relationship, a hug, a simple text, a small birthday cake give more happiness than say a diamond necklace given without love. But to maintain your status money does have its place"
People today are more obsessed with money matters than ever before. Market trends indicate youngsters are surging a lot of cash and shopping has become a stress buster of sorts. “Money is being used to express love by parents today. Parents need to spend more time with their kids that will make kids realize money is not as important as it is made out to be. A lot of relationships break because youngsters get into them considering the financial aspects involved but later realize that it"s not easy to sail through money alone" stresses Arunditi Gupta, a physiologist.
As they truly say there are some things money can"t buy!
