Rock Music - No Longer A Thing Of 'Noise'
Let's start this with one of the stupidest questions you must have ever heard of. Please don't get taken aback for it should be understood that, more often than not, stupid questions are the ones that leads you to a smart conclusion.
The question: How many of you play guitar, or at least, have played it in the past? Or may be the drums? Quizzed? Ok, let me re phrase the question. How many of you listen to rock music? Indeed funny, right? I mean, who doesn't know about bands like Judas Priest, acdc, Guns N' Roses, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Deffleppard, Poison, Aerosmith - to mention a few from the ocean-like world of music. And mind you, they are like a drop of water in the ocean that existed 'at one point in time'. Now don't start scratching your head. Here, all I'm talking about are the different genres. My, my, my: so many genres, so many music, with more than 100,000 artists, bands, musicians, what are we getting at? Well, we are speaking about rock music - then and now.
In countries like India, with so many international bands performing, people, for sure, have started to look into metal bands with an all new perspective. Recall the days when you were young, the first time you decided to keep your hair long, have some weird pendents and chains tied around your neck and hands, and then you go back home just to see your parents shouting at you. But there was little that you could. How many people could really understand what influence rock music had on you. All that people thought about rock music was 'noise'. How poignant could it get?
The kind of stature an Indian heavy-metal band had in the country was pretty bad. But thanks to event management companies that people are now becoming well acquainted with the kind of songs these bands play, and, a lot have also started liking it. Having stumble upon a few of the rock fanatics, the impression I got has been very interesting. "I have never been a metal freak. But, I've started to like it now and I've been attending a lot of metal concerts too," says Shobrat Nath. Dressed in a black metal T-shirt, he cockily adds: "I loved 'Rock in India' last year. It was a dream come true to see the top two metal bands performing live."
While reverberation from the concert is still been felt by Shobrat, there are many who shares a mutual feeling. "My dad has never likes the kind of song I listen to. And it's sad that a lot of people don't appreciate the kind of effort that goes behind these kind of songs," said Parikshit. He adds, "there should be a lot of metal concerts in the city. It will help people a lot to understand the kind of music these bands play."
