Income inequality in Hong Kong is very common and it is more extreme than almost any other place on the planet. This leads to a large amount of public housing in which the residents are allotted extremely small living spaces to live in.

Few Cannot Even Stand Up In These Coffin Houses!

There are so many coffin rooms where a person cannot stand straight. The room often consists entirely of a mattress with various shelves used to store what little assests that the occupants possess.

Few Have TV Sets To Entertain Themselves!

For some who can afford a little bigger space, can afford to deck their cubicles out with small televisions as a way to escape the confines of the suffocating room. On the other hand there are those too who simply sleep in a box with no windows and little ventilation!

They Live By Choice Here!

Most of the residents do not wish to leave these places due to the political situations. It is said that people living in Hong Kong have freedom when compared to Mainland China!

These Residents Are Making Great Sacrifices!

It is believed that people who are staying on the island are making great sacrifices for the poorest residents. In these little rooms the bathrooms are generally combined with kitchens and laundry rooms that make these places cramped and are unbelievably crowded spaces.

They Are Known As Coffin Cubicles As Well!

Most of these cage homes are nothing but the minuscule rooms that are lived in by the poorest people in the city. Over the last 10 years, the number of cage homes made of wire mesh has decreased and they are mostly replaced by beds sealed with wooden planks.
