Happy Birthday Richa Chadha: When The ‘Fukrey’ Star’s Mother Misjudged Her Then-Boyfriend Ali Fazal
Richa Chadha celebrates her 39th birthday on 18 December 2025, and if there's one thing her journey reminds us, it's this: staying true to your voice matters more than fitting into a mould. Over the years, Richa has built a career that refuses shortcuts-choosing layered characters, sharp storytelling, and honesty over easy fame. Along the way, she also found a partner who grew with her, not around her. Her love story with Ali Fazal has followed the same rhythm: steady and refreshingly real.
Meeting Ali Fazal On The Sets Of 'Fukrey'
Richa and Ali Fazal first crossed paths in 2012 while working on 'Fukrey'. At the time, it was simply a professional equation-two actors focused on their work. The friendship lingered, grew, and slowly deepened over the years.
In fact, they dated privately for several years before the world caught on. That choice-to keep something personal untouched by public scrutiny set the tone for everything that followed.
When The Relationship Went Public
It wasn't until 2017 that Richa and Ali made their relationship visible, appearing together at the 'Victoria and Abdul' premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Their ease with each other suggested they had already figured out what they meant to each other.
Later interviews revealed small, telling details. Richa has shared that she said "I love you" first. Ali took his time-three months, to be precise before saying it back. It's an anecdote that says more about emotional honesty than romance clichés ever could.
The Proposal And A Pandemic Pause
In 2019, Ali proposed to Richa during a quiet dinner in the Maldives. They planned to marry in April 2020, but the pandemic altered those plans. Instead of waiting endlessly, the two registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act in 2020, keeping it simple and grounded. Celebration, they decided, could wait.
Celebrating On Their Own Terms
That celebration finally arrived in October 2022. Wedding festivities unfolded across Lucknow, Delhi, and Mumbai-intimate, culturally rooted, and free from extravagance. Later, they even shared parts of their journey through a personal wedding documentary, 'RiAlity', offering a glimpse into their life without over-curating it.
Their relationship has often been described as interfaith, but Richa has spoken about it less as a label and more as a conversation-one built on mutual respect, family support, and shared values.
Stepping Into Parenthood
In February 2024, Richa and Ali announced they were expecting their first child. A few months later, on 16 July 2024, they welcomed their daughter, Zuneyra Ida Fazal. Parenthood, like everything else in their lives, arrived with a lot of gratitude and joy.
Living The Values She Portrays
What makes Richa Chadha's story is that she has chosen honesty in her career and in her personal life, even when that meant slower progress or tougher choices. On her 39th birthday today, Richa stands as someone who carved her own path-on screen, in love, and now as a mother.
