During the past months lakhs of birds were killed to prevent bird flu, in India. Along with the chicken industry, shuttlecocks Industry was also affected badly as shuttlecocks use bird feathers on them.
After learning that bird flu fears were causing a shortage of shuttlecocks made from goose and chicken feathers, people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA) has offered the Badminton Association of India a Common-sense solution nylon shuttlecocks. Along with a letter sent today to the association's general secretary, LC Gupta, PETA included two boxes of the highest quality nylon shuttlecocks. PETA Points out that the synthetic shuttles are not only guaranteed to be bird-flu-free, but they are more durable than those made with feathers.
"Just as birds should not be killed for sport, badminton need not out because of bird flu", says PETA India Chief Functionary Anuradha Sawhney. "If any good can come from the bird flu Epidemic, it might be that the synthetic shuttlecock will bring this ancient sport into the 21st Century."
