Students march with 2km banner
Dehra Dun, Dec 12 (UNI) Students will hold a rally with 2-km-long banner bearing signatures of over 12 lakh students to commemorate the platinum jubilee celebration of forest (FRI) here.
The students from 13 districts of the State under the aegis of Uttaranchal Education Directorate here, have put their signatures with the pledge to protect and conserve the environment and a tribute towards FRI for its outstanding services to the nation.
On December 15 the students would form a human chain from the FRI main gate, holding 2-km -long cloth with the signatures and later wrap it around the FRI building as recognition to its contribution to forestry in India. Governor Sudarshan Agarwal will tie a final knot to the cloth.
There are 1960 Eco-clubs in the Government High Schools and Intermediate Colleges in Uttaranchal.
Commenting on the rally, the State Head of Eco-club Kalyan Singh Rawat said, ''We had asked each school to sign the environment conservation pledge on one-metre-long cloth and have received response from most of the schools and colleges with Eco-Club,'' adding that the stitching of the banner was being completed at Government Girls Inter College, Rajpur Road.
