Common Labrador Health Problems

Gas or Bloat: This is a common health problem faced by Labradors. It is caused by the twisting of the stomach which entraps the food contents and gases leading to a rapid swelling of the abdomen followed by pain and eventual death if not treated immediately. Large deep chested breeds face this problem most often. Consult your veteran before it becomes life threatening. Drooling, discomfort, whining, panting, agitation, vomiting and swollen abdomen are symptoms of gastric torsion or bloating.
Hip Dysplasia: Labrador Retrievers are more susceptible to this health problem. This disease occurs when the femur doesn't fit the hip socket. The joint becomes unstable therefore resulting in joint diseases which cause pain and immobility.
Osteoarthritis: Labrador Retrievers are highly prone to joint problems due to heredity or poor diet. A degradation or breakage of the cartilage inside the joint can create a pain or stiffness in the pet. If proper pet care is not taken up, the mild osteoarthritis can become a severe painful health issue. Symptoms of osteoarthritis such as stiffness of joints, trouble in sitting or standing, reluctance to jump and reduction in activities symbolizes this problem.
Chronic ear infection: The floppy ears and excessive exposure to water are common reasons behind getting ear infections. The ears should appear light pink in color, flesh toned and clean. If an odor comes out from the ears then it can be a symptom of an ear infection.
Eye diseases: Labradors highly suffer from eye problems like cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy (retina deteriorates and eye sight is lost) or retinal dysplasia (disease sue to viral infection, toxins or low nutrient supply).
Proper diet and healthy exercise can keep Labrador Retrievers health problems away but if the pet has heredity issues then suffering from diseases are common. Get all the details from the seller.
