Hermann Tortoise – Tips For Diet & Shelter

As in the case of all pets, upbringing of this the Mediterranean tortoise, is easy if the proper methods are employed. Basic pet care tips such as right diet and providing good shelter is very essential while taking care of the Hermann tortoise.
Hermann Tortoise Dietary Habits:
1.Provide the tortoise with low-fat, calcium and mineral rich food. Also include foods that are high in fiber.
2.Give them grass and plants such as mustard cress, shredded carrot and endive.
3.Grow weeds and wildflowers in your garden. This way your pet can enjoy grazing in the garden.
4.Do not feed your Hermann tortoise with vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Fruits too should be avoided as far as possible.
Herman Tortoise Housing:
Outdoor: Keep a cage that has a house (built with wood, without the floor) for the tortoise, and remember to place it in a bright and sunny location. Provide enough sand or soil to enable the tortoise to bury itself.
Indoor: It is better to house the hatchlings indoors. Regulate the temperature to a highest of 33 °C and a low of 18 °C. If you are housing the tortoise indoors for long durations, remember to keep it out in the sun for sometime daily, so that they get enough ultra radiation.
These pets are used to digging holes where they hibernate during the night and when it is cold. So, provide ample space for them to dig. These are some of the simple tips to take care of your Hermann Tortoise.
