An Indian home decor is not as easy to perfect as it sounds. There are any aspects of a traditional style home that people hardly know about. An Indian decor is simple enough to imagine; lots of swastikas, pictures of gods and goddesses. But is that all that appeals to your aesthetics? Definitely not. The question of aesthetics in an Indian home decor is a vital one because it determines how you perceive an Indian decor.

This is the age of modern homes with minimalistic furniture and decorations. How does Indian home decor with all its ornate features match our modern sensibilities? How to Decorate A Traditional Style Home?

1. The Symbol of Ganesha: Any Indian decor is incomplete without the good luck and charming figure of our lord Ganesha.

Earlier very home would have an entire altar dedicated to gods right in the middle of the living room! That does not suit our current secular tastes. Thus it is much better to have the altar in your bedroom or a special puja room.

In your living room, keep small figurines of the cute cuddly and adorable god for auspiciousness.

These are available in different materials like wood, plaster, earth mud and also dainty little glass statues.

Alternatively, you could try keeping a huge statue of Ganesha at one empty corner of the room for bulk and simplicity together.

2. The Holy Basil Or the Tulsi Plant: Traditional house designs had courtyards in them and in the middle of the courtyard would be the Tulsi plant inside an inbuilt pot. Doesn't work out now. Firstly because there is no space. Moreover, most us cannot digest the idea of having a plant in the middle of our living room these days. But an Indian home decor is incomplete without the holy basil due to its religious significance. So keep it in your balcony or just outside your house in a stylized earthen pot. Light an oil lamp near it every evening; it looks beautiful and yards of evil spirits.

3. Ground Seating: Indians traditionally sat on the ground and not on sofas. Now a days low furniture is a raging trend so adapt it for decorating your Indian home. Chuck expensive couches and arrange mattresses on the ground tastefully with earth colored sheets and cushions. You could have cushion covers with ethnic prints like the Shantiniketan style for an authentic Indian touch.

4. Brass Statue of Natraja: This is a is an artifact that will never go out of fashion for an Indian home decor. This figure of the dancing lord Krishna is kept by dancers for divine inspiration but it makes a graceful presence in any house.

You must have the basics of a traditional style home right with some taste to go with it.
