The Karnataka Health Department is taking swift action after a startling discovery - the Zika virus has been found in local mosquitoes, specifically the Aedes aegypti species, in Chikkaballapura district. While it's a concerning development, there's no reason to hit the panic button just yet.
What Is Zika Virus?
Zika virus is a mosquito-borne virus that belongs to the Flaviviridae family. It is primarily transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, particularly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Zika virus was first identified in the Zika Forest of Uganda in 1947, and it remained relatively obscure for many years.
