It is a common practice for people to turn to alcohol if they are suffering from anxiety, depression or some kind of sadness. However, it must be noted that alcohol is one of the foods that increases anxiety in people. This is because alcohol has the ability to provide a temporary boost to your mood and liven up your life. But in the long run, it will make you more anxious.

Alcohol affects the central nervous system and plays havoc with your emotions. Alcohol has been found to cause dehydration which causes problems in your ability to focus and impairs cognitive function. This has been found to increase anxiety in people as well.

There are various food additives which are actually harmful and might lead to anxiety insomnia, uneasiness, nervousness and several other problems. A few of them are used on fruits and vegetables. Some are added to food items as well. One of these is monosodium glutamate that has been found to cause not only anxiety in people but also harm the brain as well.

Avoid having refined foods at all costs to prevent anxiety. Refined foods like pasta, white bread, sugary drinks, candies, etc. have been found to affect your mood in a number of ways. These have been found to cause fluctuations in the blood sugar level. Sometimes these cause spikes and sometimes dips in the blood sugar level. This has in turn been found to cause anxiety.

Coffee is another food item that has been found to cause anxiety in people. Too much coffee can trigger the release of stress hormones that in turn cause anxiety in people.
