Drugs That Had Different Uses Earlier
We might wonder about some things in history, but, at the same time, we must salute the people from the past, as the inventions today were backed by their research.
It is just that we have moulded the things of today in a much better way into a newer version.
You may be surprised to know how today's things were used differently in the olden days and how different are their uses in today's world.
People of the erstwhile years had limited resources and still were able to make a lot of discoveries that are helping us a lot even to this day.
Some inventions were just discovered by accident such as Viagra, a drug used to grow hair in males and brandy as well.
These useful discoveries have been able to treat many diseases nowadays, by doing some more research on it.
In this article, we have mentioned some of the past discoveries of the famous daily-used drugs, which have been used for some entirely different purposes today.
Have a look at some past inventions that are used in a totally different way today.
Viagra
This drug was used to treat chest pain and high blood pressure, but one day a man rubbed the drug to his penis and had erections. This is how Viagra came into being for the use of erectile dysfunction and to increase sexual performance.
Kitchen Disinfectant
They were once used to treat vaginal infections and was used to wash or irrigate the vagina. This was a painful procedure, as it caused an intense irritation and posed many health risks. However, luckily today it is used to clean things.
Anaesthesia
It is used to make the people unconscious during a surgery, so that they don't feel the pain. However, anaesthesia was not a drug earlier and was used to make depressed people happy. They were given a dose of anaesthesia to make them feel relaxed.
Botox Injection
Botox is injected into the skin of the face to remove wrinkles and fine lines. It was earlier used to treat abnormal eye conditions and some muscle diseases. In the late 70's, it was used as a cosmetic product.
Mouthwashes
They were earlier used to treat sexually transmitted infections known as gonorrhoea. It was also used to treat dandruff. However, nowadays we have become so resistant that it is used as a mouthwash instead.
Soft drinks
Soft drinks was not at all like the coke that we get these days. It was used as a drug to treat those who were addicted to morphine. It used to treat the withdrawal symptoms, so it contained alcohol and cocoa leaves to give them some relief.
Brandy
It was not famous as a drink earlier and only old people used to have it after supper. It was used to fake the transport of wine in earlier days, as the customs thought that this was brandy. Nowadays, it is used as a full-fledged drink.
