Cons of Using Contraceptives

Contraceptive or birth control pills basically consist of two hormones that are synthesized naturally in the body. Hormones can be both estrogen and progestin or just progestin alone. The role of these hormones in regulating a woman's menstrual cycle is highly pronounced and aid in birth control. Almost around forty percent of women who use contraceptives worldwide tend to get inflicted by one form of side effect or the other. Although the cons of using contraceptives are not too many, wrongful consumption of these pills can bring forth scores of disadvantages.

Let us look at the cons of using contraceptives. These cons can occur in varying degrees in women.

Cons of Using Contraceptives

Cons of Contraceptives:

Blood Pressure Variations:
Women who consume contraceptive pills regularly can sometimes be faced with altering levels of both diastolic as well as systolic blood pressure. It is important that blood pressure is monitored closely during the months of consumption of contraceptives.
Heart Attack Risks:
Although very rare, over consumption of contraceptives, because of its effect on the body's blood pressure, can lead to heart attack. In majority of heart attack cases that come from over consumption of contraceptives, the impact is mild.

Migraine:
One of the major disadvantages of using contraceptives is that women who are already down with migraine can have an increased incidence of encountering a stroke.

Mood Swings And Depression:
This is another con of using contraceptives. Because of the role of contraceptives in regulating the menstrual cycle, mood swings can be a common occurrence.

Decreased Sexual Satisfaction:
Women who have been using contraceptives over a prolonged period tend to be faced with this problem. This again is mainly due to the effect of estrogen and progestin on the human body.

Gain in Weight:
This is among the common disadvantages of using contraceptives. Weight gain, due to the regulation of the cycle and the production of hormones, can differ from one woman to another. Fat accumulation is mostly in the thighs where estrogen plays to induce accumulation of fat.

Mentioned are the most common disadvantages of contraceptives. The side effects of contraceptives, it must be remembered, aren't very severe in almost all women.
