Tricks For A Healthy Heart

All of us are aware of the harmful effects of seafood for the heart and the waist line. But we go for that as we cannot resist it. But the famous American cardiologist, Melda Dolan says that it is harmful for the taste buds too.
To maintain a healthy heart, a change in the life-style is always good. The first and the easiest step for that is to shop for and cook the fresh ingredients. Diet always pays the important role for the health of the heart.
Melda also suggests easy tips to have a healthy kitchen:
1.The local grocery stores can provide us fresh items, dairy, seafood and meat.
2.Do never go for seafoods including frozen meals or canned goods, which are abundant with harmful sodium and carbohydrates.
3.Use fresh herbs like basil, mint, rosemary, garlic etc to add flavour to the cooking rather than salt.
4.Butter can be replaced with olive or vegetable oil, which will be healthier and tastier.
5.Bake, boil or grill the food, instead of frying. Slow cooking provides the best flavours of vegetables and meat.
6.Fish and chicken are low in fat. Fish contains omega fatty acids, important in lipid management of the body. So include them as much as you can.
7.Red meat and pork should be decreased as much in the diet as they are high in fat, which may speed up the atherosclerosis process or the hardening of the arteries. This may lead to heart disease.
8.Enjoy fresh fruits for desserts. Cake or ice-creams can be avoided as they contain high calories.
9.Alcohol intake should be decreased to one drink per day. Red wine can be taken to an extent as it contains flavonoids and antioxidants which are good for hearts. But too much of anything will do only harm including obesity, stroke and high blood pressure.
10.The serving quantity can be made small. Replace the big plates with smaller, appetizer-size plates.
