How to Protect Yourself from Mosquito Bites in India
Mosquito bites can not only be annoying but also carry the risk of transmitting diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. Protecting your skin from mosquito bites is essential to maintain good health and enjoy outdoor activities in India.

Use Mosquito Repellents
One of the most effective ways to protect your skin from mosquito bites is by using mosquito repellents. Choose a repellent with ingredients like DEET or picaridin, as they are known for their effectiveness against mosquitoes.
Cover Exposed Skin
When venturing outdoors during peak mosquito activity times, cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and closed-toe shoes. This physical barrier reduces the chances of getting bitten.
Avoid Peak Mosquito Activity Times
Mosquitoes are most active during dawn and dusk. Minimize outdoor activities during these times to reduce exposure to mosquitoes. If you must go out, take extra precautions like using insect repellents or staying in well-screened areas.
Eliminate Standing Water
Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Regularly check your surroundings for any standing water, such as flower pots, buckets, or birdbaths. Emptying these containers and keeping them dry can help reduce mosquito populations near your home.
Use Mosquito Nets
Using mosquito nets while sleeping is an effective way to protect yourself from mosquito bites, especially when you live in areas with high mosquito activity. Ensure that the nets are properly tucked in and free of holes.
Wear Light-colored Clothing
Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colours. Opt for light-coloured clothing like white or pastels to make yourself less appealing to mosquitoes. Additionally, loose-fitting clothes can create a barrier between your skin and mosquitoes.
Try Natural Repellents
If you prefer natural alternatives, certain essential oils like citronella, lemon eucalyptus oil, or neem oil have repellent properties. However, it's important to note that natural repellents may not be as long-lasting or effective as chemical-based ones.
