Ways To Treat Insulin Resistance
Insulin is a hormone that is secreted in the pancreas. This insulin helps in sugar metabolism and thus controls the blood sugar levels in the body. The trouble starts when the cells of the body become resistant or immune to insulin. When this happens, the condition is called insulin resistance. When you have insulin resistance, your body needs to produce more amounts of insulin.
Insulin resistance is a condition that makes a person diabetic or rather makes the blood sugar levels in the body high. It is not easy to treat insulin resistance. It is a condition that cane be rarely reserved. But with the right kind of food and lifestyle changes, you can treat insulin resistance up to a certain extent.
Foods for diabetics are very important. These foods must not only be low in sugar content but also in their glycemic index. Foods for diabetes should be such that they do not shoot up your blood sugar level. Here are some effective ways in which insulin resistance can be treated.

Lose Weight
Most often obesity is the prime cause of insulin resistance. Losing about 7 percent of your total body weight gives you a good chance to reverse insulin resistance. Both exercise and proper diet must contribute to the weight loss.

Take Brisk Walks
Lack of exercise can also make the cells of your body insulin resistant. That is why, you must walk briskly at least for 30 minutes in a day to ensure that insulin is circulated properly throughout your body.

Eat Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a very misunderstood vegetable. It is sweet to taste but has very low glycemic index. Besides, pumpkin has some enzymes that helps to reverse insulin resistance.

Avoid Starchy Carbs
When you already a problem of insulin resistance, you must avoid all kinds of starchy carb rich foods. Rice is particular is very harmful. Shift to more fibrous carbs like millet and quinoa.

Treat Fatty Liver
The fatty liver syndrome is very common among youngsters these days. Fat gets deposited on the liver and the glycogen stored in the liver cannot be used. This too can cause diabetes and inability of the insulin hormone to act. So keep your liver lean and healthy.

Break Your Meals
When you have been diagnosed with insulin resistance, you cannot carry on with your prior eating schedule. You need break your meals into 6 or 8 parts and have small helpings ever time.

Have Fibre Rich Foods
Fibre rich foods are generally good for people who are diabetic. They keep you full for long periods of time and also have low sugar content. Have foods like broccoli, spinach etc for example.

Low Glycemic Foods
It is not enough for a food to have low sugar content. It should also have low glycemic index. After eating these foods, your blood sugar level should not be spiked. For example, pumpkin has very low glycemic index.

Have Cinnamon
Cinnamon is one of the known spices that helps to treat insulin resistance. Use cinnamon powder instead of sugar as a sweetener.

Chromium Deficiency
Chromium is a trace mineral that is required by the body in trace amounts. Research suggests that a deficiency of chromium could cause insulin resistance. However, chromium is found in very rare food sources like oysters and and bran.

Vitamin K Supplements
Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin that can help reduce the severity of insulin resistance. You can either take Vitamin K from green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek leaves etc or have it in the form of nutrient supplements.

Okra With Water
Cut the ends of 3 or 4 okra pieces and leave it in water overnight. In the morning, drink this water. This is supposed be a great home remedy to control blood sugar levels and also treat insulin resistance.
