It is generally advised to include these three in the heart healthy diet as they contain antioxidants. But the Australian Heart Foundation's study reveals that there is no cardiovascular health benefit from consuming them.
The researchers say that they can be included as part of a balanced diet, but not to reduce the risk of heart diseases.
To get enough antioxidants, involve a variety of plant-based foods including fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, wholegrain breads, legumes, cereals and seeds every day, advice the experts.
For a healthy heart we should include at least two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables every day.
The researchers reveal that the results of the review would be sent to doctors and other health professionals, as there were several widespread misconceptions about the foods having positive impact on cardiovascular health.
