Celeb Beauty Routine: Niharika Chouksey Swears by Home Remedies and Her Skin Shows It
"Skincare is not just about what you apply; it's also about what you put into your body."
For actor Niharika Chouksey, that line is not a caption. It is the foundation of every skincare choice she makes.
Chouksey, who has built a growing following as much for her refreshingly natural appearance as her work on screen, sat down with us for our Celeb Beauty Routine series. What followed was a conversation that had nothing to do with imported serums or multi-step regimens, and everything to do with consistency, simplicity, and the wisdom of ingredients most Indian kitchens already stock.
'It Instantly Wakes Up My Skin'
Chouksey's mornings begin with a ritual that is deceptively low-effort and surprisingly effective.
"I start by washing my face and then gently rubbing ice cubes," she told us. "It instantly wakes up my skin and reduces puffiness."
She takes it one step further on days when she wants an extra boost; cucumber ice cubes, blended and frozen, for a stronger cooling effect. After that, rose water doubles as a toner, followed by a light moisturiser. And before any of that, a large glass of water.
It is the kind of routine that takes ten minutes. Which, for most people on a working morning, is the entire point.
The Multani Mitti Convert
Ask Chouksey about her most-trusted home remedy, and she does not hesitate.
"Multani mitti is amazing, especially in summer; it helps control oil and keeps my skin fresh," she said. "Aloe vera gel is something I use regularly because it's soothing and gives a natural glow."
The third member of her holy trinity is honey. Not a serum formulated with honey extract, but actual honey applied directly as a face pack, left on, rinsed off.
"Honey face packs keep my skin soft and hydrated," she said simply.
These are not new discoveries. Multani mitti, or fuller's earth, has been used in Indian beauty traditions for generations, known for its ability to absorb excess oil without stripping the skin. Aloe vera's skin-soothing properties have been well-documented in dermatological literature, and raw honey has long been recognised for its humectant and antimicrobial qualities. Chouksey is staying consistent with what works.
The One Step She Will Never Skip
In a world where skincare influencers maintain 12-step morning routines, Chouksey's answer to the most essential step is refreshingly uncomplicated.
"Sunscreen - without a doubt," she said. "No matter how busy I am, I never skip it. It's the most important step to protect your skin."
Dermatologists across the board would agree. Broad-spectrum SPF remains the single most evidence-backed step for preventing premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, and long-term skin damage, in India especially, where UV exposure is high year-round.
Wellness That Starts Before the Mirror
Chouksey's relationship with beauty does not begin at the bathroom sink. Before she reaches for any product, she reaches for stillness.
"I like to keep my mornings calm," she said. "A little bit of yoga or stretching helps improve blood circulation, which reflects on your skin."
Her summer hydration ritual is equally considered: coconut water and watermelon juice instead of caffeine-heavy alternatives.
"They keep me hydrated and energised from within," she said.
It is a distinction worth noting: hydration from within, not just on the surface. The face mist she keeps nearby during long shoot days, usually rose water, is a supplement, not a substitute.
After the Lights Go Down
Night, for Chouksey, is when the real repair happens. But her approach to it is just as unhurried.
She starts by removing all makeup thoroughly, a step she treats as non-negotiable, in the same way she treats morning sunscreen.
"I make sure to remove all my makeup properly and cleanse my skin well," she said. "After that, I apply aloe vera gel or a light night cream. Occasionally, I use a honey face pack to restore moisture and repair my skin."
When asked about luxury night creams or trending actives, her answer was characteristically grounded.
"I prefer natural remedies. They're simple, effective, and suit my skin well. Ingredients like aloe vera, honey, and rose water have always worked for me."
The Beauty Advice Worth Keeping
Towards the end of the conversation, Chouksey offered a piece of advice that extended well beyond skincare.
"Make sure you're eating a balanced diet with enough protein and even taking multivitamins if needed," she said. "Drink lots of water, include fresh fruits like watermelon, muskmelon, apples, oranges, and stay hydrated with coconut water or natural liquids. Try to avoid oily food, especially in summer."
She paused on the word consistent.
"Be consistent - healthy skin is a result of a healthy lifestyle."
It is perhaps the simplest beauty truth there is. And coming from someone whose complexion is frequently the first thing people notice, it lands differently.
Not a product recommendation. Not a sponsor.
Just a habit.
