NYFW 2023: Models Flaunt Sindoor Prabal Gurung's new collection, Pics!

Famous Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung showcased his brand new collection at the New York Fashion Week wherein the ensembles reflected the concept of impermanence. What's more? The highlight of the limelight of the show was nothing but models sporting sindoor or vermilion in their hair parting. Turns out, the Hindu traditional ritual of a married lady sporting sindoor in her hair partition has found a newfound recognition on the runway too!

For showcasing his latest collection, Prabal opted for a mirror square design on the runway with a blue light display. The same defined a Buddhist concept of "anichya" or impermanence! He explored interesting hues like dusty pinks, burgundy, saffron vermilion and more that were inspired by his homeland, Nepal. The outfits designed by Gurung had a certain sense of warmth and edginess to them! According to Gurung, a 10-day meditative retreat motivated him to design his new collection that reflected a notion of "silence everything".

Gurung added that in his homeland speaking of - "what is present and how soon it can go" is a much-talked-about concept. The major crux of the same is - finding optimism in dark places. The simple concept or notion of "there resides light after darkness" is a huge inspiration for any creative thinker or personality! Prabal ensured to put all these ideologies in his latest collection!
The ensembles featured sharper and longer silhouettes with asymmetry. The outfits on the models were draped softy and featured some sharp angles too, With wool jackets, gliding skirts, and embellishment, the collection represented a flamboyant outlook.

Prabal further explained, presenting his work at the New York Fashion Week has been a magical journey. Hues like turquoise, fabrics like emerald silk organza, leather jackets with pink shearling collars, black and white high-neck dresses, couture dresses with sexy cutouts at the hip, butterfly knit oversized sweaters, embroidered cocoon coats and more, Prabal's designs showcased variety in the most interesting way possible.
Speaking of his inspiration, in his 10-day vipassana retreat, a painted butterfly landed on his window allowed him to come up with a design concept of adding pop-up hues and designs directly inspired by nature around us!

With this collection, Prabal wished to feature a state of "impermanence". The same provides a rather thinkable outlook on life. One should understand that nothing is fixed in life and constant shifts should be embraced. That's how one evolves in life.

Prabal's collection at the NYFW 2023 was all about embracing what's there around us. To further upscale the featured ensembles, the models sported sindoor in the hair partition. Applying a sindoor is a common beauty ritual for Indian married ladies that symbolises "being married". Prabal showcased this Asian beauty ritual by styling the modern-outfits-clad models in red sindoor. The perfect fusion of the style elements worked well for Gurung's collection!
