Today we're going to talk about India's most prestigious and valued fashion festival. Do you know which one is it? It's none other than the Lakme Fashion Week.
Yes, you heard us right, Lakme Fashion Week is supposed to be the most important fashion week/festival in India. As Indian fashion is very classy, elite, traditional and indo-western, the Lakme Fashion Week should suffice all the needs of the Indian fashion.
Let's into the details of Lakme Fashion Week(LFW). It is basically a bi-annual fashion event that takes place in Mumbai. Its summer-resort takes place in February, While the winter-festive season takes place in August. It came into existence in the year 1990 and is still going on. It is run by the Fashion Design Council Of India (FDCI) and the title sponsor is Lakme.
It initially featured international models like Naomi Campbell and later some of our famous Bollywood stars participated in it, such as Malaika Arora Khan, Arjun Rampal and Deepika Padukone. Some of the international labels which took part in LFW are Louis Vuitton, Dolce And Gabbana, and Roberto Cavalli.
Lakme Fashion Week features a lot of A-list designers such as Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal, et cetera. But it is said that LFW is the reason for launching and giving success to the career of designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Best saved for the last. The main attraction of Lakme Fashion Week is the celebrity showstopper tradition. Yes, usually for all the shows of LFW the showstoppers are mostly the Indian cinema superstars. Major celebrity attractions are Dia Mirza, Lisa Hayden, Priyanka Chopra, Chitrangada Singh and the diva herself, Kareena Kapoor. Being the brand ambassador of Lakme she always appears in the finale, and does the closing of LFW finale every year.
