Mashed Sabudana For Maha Shivratri
The festival of Lord Shiva is just a week away and devotees have already started their preparation. It is believed that on the night of Maha Shivratri, Lord Shiva married Parvati. To commemorate this day, the devotees of Lord Shiva fast on Shivratri. To break their fast, they choose from a number of Shivratri recipes. The recipe we are discussing today is called ‘mashed sabudana'.
Mashed sabudana is a fast recipe from Bengal. As per the norms of the Maha Shivratri fast, this dish does not require any salt. Most Shivratri recipes contain a bit of rock salt (sanda namak), but this dish is for those who keep the fast very religiously.

Mashed sabudana is both delicious and filling. After fasting for the whole day, this recipe will give you the energy and nutrition you need. Here is the recipe for mashed sabudana for Boldsky readers.
Serves: 2
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Sabudana (soaked)- 3 cups
- Milk- 1 cup
- Grated coconut- 1 cup
- Sugar- 1 tbsp
- Bananas- 2
- Bael or Bengal quince- 1 (pulp)
- Pomegranate seeds- 2tbsp
- Apple- ½ (chopped)
- Grapes- 10
Procedure
- Soak sabudana for 8 to 10 hours or overnight before Shivratri.
- Warm milk in a pan on low flame; add the sabudana to it when the milk bubbles.
- Boil milk and sabudana for 5 minutes on low flame.
- Now take the pan off the flame and pour its contents into a bowl.
- Allow the mixture to cool.
- Then add sugar, chopped bananas, bael pulp and grated coconut to the mixture.
- Now mash the mixture with your fingers until it is uniform.
- Finally add the fruits, namely apple, grapes and pomegranate to the sabudana mixture.
- Break your fast by having mashed sabudana this Shivratri.
