Khatta Moong: Gujarati Recipe
Navratri is almost here and it is time to try some special Gujarati recipes. There are many Gujarati recipes that can be prepared at home. From Dhoklas to Khakra, Gujarati dishes are simple and delicious in their own way. Khatta moong is one of the Gujarati recipes which is prepared as an Indian side dish for the main course.
Khatta moong is a whole green moong dal which is prepared with exotic spices and moong dal (green gram). This Gujarati khatta moong is special because it has curd which makes it tangy and all the more delicious. If you eat garlic, then you can add some garlic pods to prepare this incredible Indian side dish. Check out the recipe to prepare khatta moong. Make sure that the curd is sour or else the dal won't be that delicious.
Khatta Moong: Gujarati Recipe

Serves: 3
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30-45 minutes
Ingredients
1. Moong- 1 cup
2. Curd- 1 cup
3. Besan- 1tsp
4. Turmeric powder- 1tsp
5. Red chilli powder- 1tsp
6. Green chilli- 2 (chopped0
7. Sugar- a pinch
8. Mustard seeds- ½ tsp
9. Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
10. Fenugreek seeds- a pinch
11. Clove- 1
12. Cinnamon- 1 stick
13. Curry leaves- 1 sprig
14. Oil- 2tbsp
15. Salt- as per taste
Procedure
1. Wash the moong in running water. Soak them in water for about 2 hours.
2. Add extra water and salt, and pressure cook for the duration of 2 whistles. Let the pressure come out from the cooker. Open the lid and keep it aside.
3. In a bowl, whisk curd with red chilli powder, besan, sugar, salt and turmeric powder.
4. Add 1 cup water into the bowl and mix well. Keep it aside.
5. Now heat oil in a skillet and season with mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and cumin seeds.
6. Add the curry leaves, clove and cinnamon. Pour the whisked curd and stir continuously on a high flame till it starts boiling.
7. Gently pour the cooked moong and mix well. Add extra water if you want thin consistency.
8. Boil for 3-4 minutes and then turn off the flame.
Khatta moong is ready to eat. Serve this Gujarati side dish hot with steamed rice.
