Aloo Jalfrezi: Spicy Side Dish Recipe

Jalfrezi is a special dish that has come from Pakistan. The spicy jalfrezi recipes are popular in the Indian cuisine. In many restaurants, dhabas and hotel, you can get jalfrezi recipes.
Jalfrezi recipes can be vegetarian or non-vegetarian. The jalfrezi recipes are spicy gravies that can be prepared with aloo, chicken, mutton or mix vegetables. Lets start with the basic aloo jalfrezi recipe. This side dish can be a spicy treat for main course.

Aloo jalfrezi, side dish recipe:
Serves: 3
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20-25 minutes
Ingredients
- Potatoes- 7-8 (boiled and peeled)
- Onions- 2 (finely chopped)
- Ginger- 1 inch (mashed)
- Garlic- 5-6 pods (mashed)
- Tomato- 1 (finely chopped)
- Green and red chillies- 3-4 (sliced)
- Tomato puree- 2tbsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Curry powder- 1tbsp
- Red chilli powder- 1½ tsp
- Garam masala- 1tsp
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Mustard seeds- ½ tsp
- Dry Kasoori methi- 1tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Ghee- 2tbsp
- Water- 1 cup
- Bay leaf- 1
Procedure
- Heat ghee in a frying pan. When the ghee melts, season with cumin seeds, bay leaf, mustard seeds and kasoori methi.
- Add the chopped onions, ginger, garlic and mix well. Cook on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cut the boiled potato pieces into 4 halves and keep them aside.
- When the onions are cooked, add turmeric powder, salt, red chilli powder, curry powder and green chillies. Mix well. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook on a medium flame for around 3 minutes.
- Once the tomato pieces become tender, pour the tomato puree and water. Mix well and bring it to boil.
- Once the gravy thickens, add the boiled potatoes. Slowly mix all the ingredients and cook for another 2 minutes.
Aloo jalfrezi recipe is ready to eat. Serve this spicy side dish with rice or rotis.
