Dal Musallam: Delicious Dal Recipe
Dal is one item which just cannot be missed out from our everyday menu. It is an item without which the Indian meal remains incomplete. So, why not try something innovative with the regular dal? Here is a dal recipe just to take your taste-buds on a delightful ride.
Dal musallam is a unique dal recipe. It is one dish which is a must-try for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarians. It is prepared with a mix of yogurt, butter and some exotic spices which lend this recipe an excellent creamy texture and a mouthwatering flavour. The special 'tadka' or the seasoning adds an entirely different flavour to the dish. This vegetarian recipe is extremely simple and gets ready in minutes.

Serves: 3-4
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- Toor dal- 2 cups
- Onion- 1 (chopped)
- Tomato- 1 (chopped)
- Yogurt- 2tbsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Garam masala- 1tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Salt - as per taste
For seasoning
- Butter- 1tbsp
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Green chillies- 2 (chopped)
- Garlic- 2 cloves (finely chopped)
Procedure
- Melt one teaspoon of butter in a pressure cooker. Add onions and cook for about 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
- As the onions turn transparent, add tomatoes, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Cook for about 2 minutes.
- Clean and wash the dal and add it to the pressure cooker. Mix well.
- Add water and salt. Cover and cook for about 3-4 whistles on medium flame.
- Once done, switch off the flame and allow the cooker to cool down.
- Once the dal cools down completely, mix the yogurt in it.
- Then sprinkle garam masala and mix well. Keep it aside.
- Now heat butter in a pan and add cumin seeds, garlic and green chillies.
- Saute for 2-3 minutes on medium flame then add this to the dal and mix well.
Dal musallam is ready to be served. It is an excellent accompaniment with steamed rice or chapatis.
